Sometimes ‘snail-mail’ is the only option, so it’s nice to know when you’re in good hands. This was the literal case for a potential customer, when Elizabeth Sokol personally delivered an America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) brochure to her home.
As someone who typically works with real estate agents, the APHW North and South Carolina Area Sales Manager didn’t understand at first why she had received the request, or why APHW had mailed the warranty instead of sending it by email. “I couldn’t find her as a REALTOR® or a homeowner in our system, so I called her,” she said.
It turned out the homeowner wasn’t terribly computer savvy, so she was waiting for ‘snail mail’ to come through instead—but COVID-19 kept causing delays with the postal service. “And when I talked to her, I realized she was also an unaffiliated REALTOR®, who lives only about four miles from me,” Elizabeth said. “And she was so excited to have somebody local that she knew was attached to the warranty she was trying to purchase!”
They discussed coverage options for a while, and the REALTOR® asked Elizabeth if she could come drop off a brochure at her home. “I said, ‘I’m almost at your driveway,’ and she just lit up over the phone,” Elizabeth said. “So I got there, stood on the front porch, and told her how the home warranty would pertain to her particular situation. She’s not selling right now, but she will be, and she wanted the best coverage.”
The REALTOR® originally discovered APHW through her Continuing Education training, where another real estate agent had recommended the company. “We’ve talked a couple times since then,” Elizabeth said. “And I’ll call her back again today with more answers about getting her registered as an agency.”

Keller Williams (KW) Premier Real Estate coordinated a flood relief effort in the Midland area, after heavy rains on May 19 caused two dams to fail in Michigan. The flooding forced about 10,000 people to evacuate their homes and caused nearly $20 million in damages to Midland, Gladwin, and Saginaw counties.
KW invited America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) to sponsor a breakfast for their volunteers. APHW was honored to help, and took things a few steps further, including additional volunteers and a check for $25,000 toward the effort, as well as a letter with the following statement:
“APHW has grown exponentially over the last several years, built upon the cornerstone of Luke 12:48 of the Bible: ‘To whom much is given, much will be required.’ … In giving the glory back to God, we want to give back to you … We pray that these funds and volunteers help in your efforts to bring Midland, Michigan back to the place so many people call home. You are doing the work of God. May He Bless you and give you strength as you continue your efforts.”

Have you ever avoided salespeople? I don’t appreciate a forceful sales pitch either… but not all salespeople are like that. Definitely not Suzann Blades—as far as she’s concerned, friendship is far more important.
“I truly do care about every one of the real estate agents I work with,” said the America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) Area Sales Manager. “If you give me business, I appreciate it, but I reach out because I sincerely want to know how you are doing.”
Like everyone else, social distancing dramatically changed Suzann’s routine. Her typical day used to involve visiting agencies, meeting real estate agents for coffee or trainings, or delivering updates about their clients’ home warranty experiences. Now finding new ways to make and continue those connections without actually being around people—but this isn’t really new to her.
“We’re used to dealing with various disasters in Louisiana,” Suzann said, indicating events like Hurricane Katrina. “We mobilize and get things done, and we check on each other because that’s just what we do: We care. Now we’re all working together to come up with a different way of doing business.”
This straightforward integrity and caring attitude have earned Suzann loyalty within the real estate community over the years. “I’ve had agents go out of their way to stand up for me when I’m not even in the room,” she said. “They know that no matter when they call, I’m going to pick up and I’m going to do what I can to help.”
And Suzann has a message, both for real estate agents and everyone else: “As strong Americans, we will get through this,” she said. “This is a time to reflect, but we will make it through this gauntlet and rise above it.”

The National Home Service Contract Administration (NHSCA) officially accredited America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) Tuesday, March 10, recognizing their full compliance with a recently created, nationwide standard for home warranty companies.
“This gives consumers and real estate agents added confidence to know they’re doing business with a reputable company,” said APHW CEO Rodney Martin. “And we’re very excited to receive this important designation!”
The NHSCA shared their thoughts in a blog post last September, regarding the new accreditation:
“The award of the NHSCA accreditation logo demonstrates to consumers and the industry our membership’s commitment to proper regulation and compliance,” says John Walsh, General Counsel for NHSCA member Cinch Home Services, Inc., based in Florida. Walsh, also the NHSCA Treasurer/Secretary, added, “NHSCA membership is what REALTORS® look for when recommending a home warranty provider. This program is just another step forward to assure regulators and consumers [that] we take our responsibility seriously to meet their expectations.”
